Traditional Talk Therapy

Interpersonal Process Therapy

Interpersonal Process Therapy  is a talk- therapy modality that helps clients eliminate symptoms of mental illness and stress by improving their communication and relationships with others.

The basic principles of IPT include:

  1. Problematic interpersonal relationships are directly related to your current mood.

  2. Improving interpersonal relationships will improve your mood and mental health symptoms.

  3. Improvement in your mood and symptoms leads to better interpersonal functioning.

In other words, the cycle of improvement feeds itself — the more you improve how you relate to others, the more your symptoms will improve and vice versa.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidenced based therapy that seeks to help individuals change their thinking patterns to improve their symptoms.

CBT is based on several core principles, including:

  1. Psychological problems are based, in part, on faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking.

  2. Psychological problems are based, in part, on learned patterns of unhelpful behavior.

  3. People suffering from psychological problems can learn better ways of coping with them, thereby relieving their symptoms and becoming more effective in their lives.

CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns. These strategies might include:

  • Learning to recognize one’s distortions in thinking that are creating problems, and then to reevaluate them in light of reality.

  • Gaining a better understanding of the behavior and motivation of others.

  • Using problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations.

  • Learning to develop a greater sense of confidence in one’s own abilities.
